"Jackie and Shadow, Nature and eggs… Over the past few days we have received an amazing number of comments and feedback from our global community about Jackie and Shadow. We appreciate this amazing outpouring of support! Please rest assured that our team is working as fast as we can to get back to everyone and address all inquiries. In the meantime and to assist in answering some of the more pressing questions, we will use this official Facebook page to update you and report our observations: We understand that everyone is worried about the eggs, some afraid to watch the cam, some afraid to turn away. We wish there was an obvious pip that we could report, but so far, there is not. We do not know why or how. But that is nature. Eggs 2 and 3 are still within the possible hatching window. Egg 1 is probably not. Sometimes watching nature is hard and our logical mind cannot understand and thinks it needs facts and absolutes. At the same time, our emotional mind wants to have something to hold onto, something to calm its confusion and its fears. We stopped zooming on the eggs so often because it seemed to be causing more upset and concern than curiosity and calmness. If and when a pip happens, we do not have to know about it instantly. We will see it soon enough. Watching nature builds our patience, our strength, our compassion and our resilience. As a biologist, watching human as well as animal behavior, I know that sometimes when we worry, we tend to get upset with the people and things around us. Or to want to blame something…because that’s easier than feeling what is happening inside, especially sadness. Please allow yourself to feel whatever you are feeling. When you feel it, it can dissolve. And in the meantime, we will watch what is happening in nature… Jackie and Shadow have not given up on anything and continue their dedicated egg care. Tuesday morning Shadow showed up from the back porch shortly after dawn for an early morning duty shift. After a full night, Jackie was happy for a little break. She arrived back with fluff about an hour later. Shadow did a short bit of arguing, because obviously, you can’t just give in too easily or your mate might get the idea you are a push-over. But he gave egg-duty to Jackie and even gave her a couple hours on the nest before coming in with more fluff. They both brought fluff rather than sticks all day and they had smooth transitions the rest of the day…and a bit of a loud one when Shadow came in with a fish, as Jackie made sure everyone knew the fish was hers. The rest of the evening was Jackie’s. Shadow arrived early again yesterday morning and this time they have quite a long discussion about it before Jackie agreed to let him take over. They had only another couple exchanges through the day, as weather clouds started rolling in. They both seemed to be a little jumpy and were off the eggs a couple times during shift changes. There were some sub-adult bald eagles in the area and their guarding activities to chase those intruders away may have been the cause. By afternoon, snow had started, so Jackie took over nest duty as per Jackie’s rules. This morning, when the snow had stopped, Shadow showed up to take over. Jackie argued and then mumbled as she got up but looked a bit relieved to let him take over after sitting through the snowy night. Thank you all for your continued support, patience and calmness as we all watch to see what happens next. Sandy"
Again thanks so much for caring about these beautiful eagle's and Yes sometimes nature is hard to understand but for so many reasons we will never know but our continued love support and prayers for another year of being able to be a part of this legend of Jackie and Shadow!! ❤❤
Wow what an amazing update-summary Sandy! I really like what you wrote. I too find myself anxious – a bit worried. I watched a video of another eagle pair (Florida). The female lost her long time mate. Then she found a newer mate, but he was not mature or experienced enough. So he didn’t know to bring her food or to sit on the eggs so she could take a break. Then she gave up. It was heartbreaking! She stood on the nest leaning her head into an adjacent tree. It was like she was mourning. The male across from her didn’t leave for a very long time. Sandy is right – this is nature at its realest! If you feel like crying – cry – it’s a good catharsis.
While it's sad that they pretty obvioulsy do have some sort of fertility problem going on now, it's still lovely and humbling to watch nature in all it's beauty and reality. Thank you for providing this window into Jackie and Shadow's lives.
Interesting that any comments with an ounce of common sense have no ❤ J&S are wild birds living in the moment and instinctively. Humanising them in this way isn't healthy!
Been following them for a few years they're so much fun to watch and have such different personalities it is disappointing about egg one But possibilities are still there for a hatching Love our Eagles
Thank u so much 4 update..,,its kind of like a neighbor expecting her baby,,u r not close friends, but sad to hear of loss fo4 her..,,,if egg doesnt hatch.. ,sound of wzter makes m3 sleepy as its nasty ,chilly out tonite,..
I love Jackie and Shadow, who, as a viewer, were my first nest. Yes, Nature is what it is and we are part of it, so it is important to remember that the eagles are not humans. Each couple can lay 20-30 eggs in their lifetime, and J & S have had a few eaglets already, so if these eggs are not viable, it is not a big deal. We will welcome them again next season!
That you for all that valuable information. Jackie and Shadow are the best parents ever!! It is doesn't happen, it wasn't meant to be. These two are loving, devoted creatures, so yes, we all are rooting for them!
Thank you for the post. Yes, nature is harsh…. but that is not under our control. I get so much joy just watching these two! Life goes on! {Praying that 2 or 3 make a showing!)
Thank so much for the update. If J & S are not giving up, we shouldn't either but all we can do is watch. I'm crossing my fingers for them. they are great parents.
There are alot more eagles now and intruders will be prevalent so it will have an effect on how the eggs hatch due to inconsistent incubation patterns.
Thank you! One thing is for sure, FOBBV had succeeded greatly in raising awareness and concern for the Bald Eagle. 331,000 subscribers love Jackie and Shadow.
I don’t understand why the post was needed – I suppose folks are expecting answers regarding the eggs all day long. The volunteers- the organization does a great job and a service to people by letting us observe the magnificent creatures. We appreciate the info and updates given. You all do not owe everyone more than that. You are kind and try to appease everyone however. The updates and explanations are plenty – we understand nature will play out how it does and that’s that. You all do enough work in support of these birds and others. Don’t feel obligated to change anything else. We wish for the best for them and everything in nature. My family has watched J&S for years now. We have watched them with losses and joy. They withstand it all and are still going and still together. Strong, dedicated and magnificent birds. Thanks for the opportunity for us to be involved and the work everyone does for that to be possible. That’s enough for us. We wait to see your updates when available. Thanks again
Thank you for reposting what Sandy wrote. That was beautifully said. This has been the most incredible thing watching Jackie and Shadow over the last 3 years. I have enjoyed every moment of their majestic beauty. I have learned so much. I love both so much! 🙂
Don"t take this as an offense, but why are other eggs in other places hatching. As someone who has watched this channel for three years , I find that these particular eggs in this particular place not hatching alarming. Thanks, Mrallnn98
Thank you for response,I am not on fb. This couple is so very unique ,they truly r so verbal & demonstrative in their relationship I pray they will have successful hatchings, whether it's 1,2 or3

Not looking good for those eggs. They did their best but there is barely insulation under those eggs
I’m so happy to witness this beautiful event to come! Thank you so much

Thank you, Cali! ⚘
