If this person does not understand the subtleties of Judeo-Christian moral values, particularly sexual modesty and propriety, he obviously does not belong in academia. The issue here does not pertain to freedom of speech, it concerns sexual propriety and general decency. Apparently, two applied sciences graduate degrees were insufficient for this gentleman to absorb some of the basic Western moral values. A person who lacks a solid classical academic education should not occupy an exemplary role in academia. It appears that he already invited a porn actress to speak during the Free Speech Week: next time, it would be advisable to consult with legal professionals to make sure they understand this constitutional liberty, and please try to avoid criminal defence experts who have absorbed their clients’ life approach. We are trying to reach for excellence, not the lowest common denominator.
teachers have been fired for ..beach pictures. ordinary vacation beach pictures.. so it's about time where we had a test case to throw that shit OUT and this is hopefully going to become that test case where employers are in fact told to stay out of their employees off clock activities. So.. if you say they shouldn't have been surprised that if discovered they would be fired..but you have to wonder how the board found out (through their own personal pornhub subscriptions perhaps?) And why they thought it was prudent to draw this much attention to it.. in any case I hope the Happy Sexy Couple manage to sue the school for so much money they have to name a new campus dedicated to sex ed, entertainment and employment law, and digital media after them. I'm all for freedoms and free speech, but how fried do you have to be, in the head, to think that this is appropriate for a college chancellorship/professorship. It speaks to a lack of awareness of decorum.
The mistake he made is that he's a straight man making porn videos with his straight wife. If he was gay and making porn videos with his male husband he'd have been praised and probably given a raise and a promotion.
I would not choose this university for the reason that this is not a place of learning and continuous improvement, but rather of comparing stank guys, though this dude is straight up u***.
While I don't blame Gow or his wife for pursuing this lifestyle, I have zero sympathy for his predicament. He and his wife certainly realized the risk of what they were doing and the public fallout that would certainly occur when it came to light. The most sympathetic thing you could say is that he and his wife were naive about the risk of controversy and the consequential threat to his position. But, a harsher judgment would be that they were simply stupid. In fact, I find it ironic that he is a psych scholar. Both he and his wife were engaging in a potentially self-destructive game and they both seemed content to push the outside of the envelope. I know many people who engage in similar lifestyles and many of them have similar high-profile jobs. The difference between them and these two comes down to discretion. None of them would have so openly published their identities or tried stunts like hiring the porn star. These were risky moves and in the end, they got burned by their own risky choices.
Why take legal action when he can just go back to doing filthy porn flicks like the sleaze ball he is? Disgusting creature. I hope he enjoys the mess he made for himself.
It is just amazing to watch these college leaders act so inappropriately and actually claim that they are in the right. Harvard, UPenn, MIT and now this bonehead from UW-La Crosse. It's like global warming has fried their brains.
