Honestly, I've never really seen a scenario where I felt verbally attacking one of my players, or trying to "break them down" verbally would help them improve. From what I've seen and experienced. It just makes them put more pressure on themselves. You can address players in a firm manner without making a scene. They don't need to be screamed at. Sure, there are times where the team needs to be woken up, and there are times when an individual needs a kick in the ass. There's a difference though.
Lee, he did hit a few guys in the head and chest with the ball. It's not just that, it's demoralizing to a man when he's hit and he can't defend himself. I'm all for breaking players down verbally, but I'd never hit any of my players out of frustration or for control.
